01Pollen count and weather – which maps help

Official pollen data gives load levels by pollen type – we do not have a dedicated map for that. Instead, wind, rain, temperature and humidity radar provide the weather background: wind transports pollen, rain washes it from the air, dry warmth promotes release.

Open the matching maps at the top of this page and zoom to your region. When heat rises after several dry days, pollen load often increases too – especially in early summer with grass pollen.

03Pollen season in Germany – birch, grasses, ragweed

Hazel and alder often start in late winter, birch follows in spring. Grass pollen dominates May through July. Ragweed can reach high local values from August in warm summers – especially in the Rhine-Main area and southern Germany.

The map does not replace a pollen monitoring station. It helps you understand why load rises or falls on a given day: often brief relief after thunderstorms, sometimes long-range transport under high pressure and dry wind from other regions.

04Tips for allergy sufferers on high-pollen days

Keep windows closed in the morning and midday when dry wind blows and no rain is forecast. Plan walks for the evening. Ventilate after rain showers while it stays dry.

Combine the map with weather alerts for thunderstorms and heavy rain: sudden weather changes can briefly improve pollen conditions but also mobilize dust and mold spores.

For load levels by pollen type you need official services: Germany's national weather service publishes pollen forecasts; the NINA warning app also covers severe weather that can change pollen conditions at short notice.
